Homecoming: A Place to Heal

“Homecoming: A Place to Heal,” is a public art/monument project stewarded by Red Wing Arts in partnership with the Honoring Dakota Project, Prairie Island Indian Community, the City of Red and Goodhue County Health and Human Services. The project will invite Dakota people back to He Mni Can through a symbolic bark lodge serving as a gathering space for reflection and learning.

This partnership project is one of the eight recipients of the inaugural Midwest Memory Grant. This initiative, funded by the Mellon Foundation, supports rural Midwest communities in creating, recontextualizing, and preserving monuments and memorials that honor important untold local histories and stories.

We will be sharing more about this project in the weeks and months to come and look forward to engaging with the community so you can learn and heal together.
